Celebrating Ten Years!

Today is Aug 17th, 2018. Ten years ago I saw my first counseling client at a training clinic in San Francisco.

I was nervous. I worried she would ask me how many clients I had seen and I would have to admit she was my first one. Our 50 minute session seemed impossibly long. But she didn’t ask, and we had a good therapy session and she came back again. We worked together for a few months before she left to travel the world, ready to embrace adventure.

Much is the same now as it was then. I offer my clients compassionate, nonjudgmental care and attention. As an experienced therapist I recognize patterns sooner and am more adept at intervention. But while I offer occasional insight, the most profound shifts in perspective come from my clients, born in the space we create together for awareness and clarity.

When I look back at the last decade and at what that time as a therapist has given to me, I am deeply grateful to those that have sat in my office. They have taught me about trust and resilience, about kindness and capacity for change.

I feel lucky that I get to show up each day with vulnerable humans who are willing to be honest and raw. To do work that breaks the surface layers of mask and habit and ask the question – “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” (Mary Oliver)
